Huge discounts on Heathrow Connect to encourage commuting

Airport staff are being offered huge 75 per cent discounts on season tickets with the Heathrow Connect service in a bid to get more of them to use it for commuting.
The discount applies to weekly, monthly or annual season tickets compared to the normal price and is available from 1 September.
Heathrow Connect, operated jointly by BAA and First Great Western, runs every 30 minutes from London Paddington via Ealing Broadway, West Ealing, Hanwell, Southall and Hayes & Harlington to Heathrow Central for Terminals 1 and 3. The air-conditioned trains take 25 minutes from London Paddington to Heathrow Central, from where there are free connections every 15 minutes to both Terminals 4 and 5.
In 2009 over 600,000 journeys were made on Heathrow Connect and the new discount is being introduced to encourage more of the 77,000 staff based at the airport to use the service. British Airways staff based at Waterside are also eligible.
In order to benefit from the discount, airport staff need to take a passport sized photograph to their local First Great Western ticket office and show a valid company or Heathrow Airport ID card. A Heathrow Connect photocard will be made at the station and can be used immediately to buy a season ticket, which from 1st September will be half of the current staff fare and 75% less than a normal fare.
“We hope these fantastic new discounts will persuade more staff to consider leaving the car at home and getting the train to work. Heathrow Connect offers a regular, reliable service to the airport and is now cheaper than ever before for airport workers.” said Theo Panayi, Heathrow’s Transport Strategy Manager.
For further information on services and times staff can call Heathrow Connect on 0845 678 6975 or visit www.heathrowconnect.com. The website www.heathrow.com/commuter helps airport staff to make better travel choices and improve their journey to work and save money, time and help the environment.
New staff fares are as follows:
- Paddington to Heathrow weekly/monthly/annual ticket is now £12.05/£46.28/£482.00 (was £24.10/£92.55/£964.00)
- Ealing Broadway, West Ealing, Hanwell to Heathrow ticket is now £8.85/£34.28/£354.00 (was £17.70/£68.55/£708.00)

- Hayes & Harlington to Heathrow ticket is now £4.90/£18.83/196.00 (was £9.80/£37.65/£392.00)
- The discount can also be offered as part of a rail season ticket from stations between Hayes & Harlington to Reading, including connecting branch lines from Henley, Marlow, Windsor and Greenford.

Gulf Air announces discounted Heathrow Express train travel

Gulf Air announced on Sunday (May 23) that it will be offering its customers discounted rail travel between Heathrow airport and London Paddington train station.
The national carrier of Bahrain has reached an agreement with Heathrow Express to provide its passengers concessional rate tickets for their journeys to and from Heathrow. By pre-booking their tickets at www.gulfair.com and printing them out, customers can bypass the normal ticket queues and board the train immediately.
Gulf Air have also signed an identical deal with Deutsche Bahn allowing customers travelling to and from Frankfurt to go for free to and from any German city on their rail network. Lars Denlew, Gulf Air’s Sales & Distribution Director said; “We are constantly looking to make our customers’ travel experience easier, hassle-free, more enjoyable and affordable.
The agreements we reached with two of Europe’s best known train services are examples of this. Now Gulf Air customers can stretch their money further by saving on train tickets, which are usually expensive in Europe. As we keep rolling out more products and services, our ultimate aim is to offer the best value-for-money to our customers without compromising on the quality of our service.”
Airline check-in facilities at Paddington
Self-service check-in facilities and flight information screens have been installed at Paddington station ready for use by travellers using Heathrow Express.
The scheme is initially available for passengers with just a few airlines, but Heathrow Express hope that it will soon be extended and be widely used as a quick and convenient way of preparing for a flight.
Heathrow Express Managing Director Richard Robinson stated: “At Heathrow Express we never underestimate the stress of travelling and continually strive to enhance our service through leading innovations. People do not always get the opportunity to print their boarding pass before getting to the airport. By introducing this service at Paddington, customers have the opportunity to print their boarding pass and avoid the hassle of queuing for check in at the airport. Customers can then proceed direct to their airline’s designated bag-drop if they have hold luggage. Customers can rest assured on the train because they already know where they are sitting on the plane.”
With an average of 40,000 flights a year leaving Heathrow, it is hoped that the launch of these new enhanced information services will help reduce confusion for passengers trying to find their way to the right check in area.
The facility consists of three machines located below the screens and next to the Heathrow Express ticket office. The machines are easy to use with touch screen facilities. Customers can print their boarding pass and view their flight information before they even arrive at the airport, helping them to feel more at ease on their way to Heathrow. The machines are initially available for passengers travelling on four airlines: Delta Air Lines, Finnair, Iberia and United Airlines.
The Flight Information Display Screens show the day’s flights, the airlines, the terminal and departure times. They are placed by the Paddington Station Heathrow Express ticket office and half way down platforms 6 and 7, which are dedicated solely to Heathrow Express.
