Huge cargo warehouse fire at Heathrow
More than 100 fightfighters battled a huge blaze at a Heathrow warehouse – although no flights were affected.
The fire, at the Servisair warehouse in the heart of the airport’s cargo area, is believed to have started in a fork-lift truck and rapidly spread throughout the large building.
There were no injuries although 200 workers were evacuated as the fire took hold. A total of 10 fire engines were called to the scene and many were still at the site the following day damping down the hot spots and ensuring the safrety of the building.
The only impact on passengers was the closure of one of the airport perimiter roads although diversions were rapidly put in place by police.
