Heathrow is preparing for its busiest seven days of the year so far, with more than 1.6 million passengers expected to pass through its doors in the first week of the Easter school holidays.
Heathrow workers to carry Olympic torch
Two members of Heathrow airport staff have been selected as torch bearers for the 2012 Olympic Games.
Gobinder Dhesi, a Service team leader in Security and Elaine Hart, from BAA’s Tax and Insurance department, were chosen to carry the Olympic Flame in the Torch Relay.
Virgin heads to the canadian west
Virgin Atlantic is to launch a new route from Heathrow to the Canadian city of Vancouver later this spring.
The new service will commence on 24th May 2012 and will operate four times a week on a Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. Initially the service will run throughout the summer up until 27th October 2012 and it is estimated to that up to 40,000 Virgin Atlantic customers will travel on the route in the first season.

Heathrow Express gets new look for the Olympics
Heathrow Express has announced a substantial rebranding, which will be in place before the summer Olympics.
The high-speed service, which expects to be an integral part of the Olympic transport operation, is spending £16 million on its new brand which includes refurbished train carriages and new staff uniforms. The ticket offices at Heathrow and Paddington will also be revamped in the new corporate colours.
Heathrow shops boom despite national trend
Retail sales at Heathrow have forged ahead – despite the high street slump, according to the latest figures.
Gross retail sales at the airport increased by 8.8 per cent in 2011, with shoppers from the rapidly-growing BRIC nations leading the shopping boom.
Structural work completed for Terminal 2
The transformation of Heathrow’s central area passed a significant milestone today with a ‘topping out’ ceremony for the new Terminal 2.
The event marked the end of major structural work at the £2.5 billion development which is set to change the face of airport operations when the first phase opens in 2014.
Virgin increases Accra frequency
Virgin Atlantic is to add two additional frequencies to its booming London Heathrow-Accra route from March 26.
The airline will move to a five times-weekly service as the Ghanaian economy continues to expand. Virgin says there has been growth of over 50 per cent in premium economy and Upper Class bookings on the route during the last six months.
Premier opens its biggest airport hotel
Premier Inn, the UK’s largest budget hotel chain, has opened its biggest airport hotel yet with over 400 bedrooms near Heathrow Terminal 5.
